Privacy Policy

This atlas is operated by Simon Tornberg Hansen (“Kemet”, “we”, “us”), Denmark. We are the data controller responsible for the personal data described in this notice.

For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, contact us at simontornberg@hotmail.com. If we have appointed a Data Protection Officer, you can reach them at the same address marked “for the attention of the DPO”.

When you use the atlas we collect a limited set of technical and behavioural data. We do not ask you to create an account to browse, and we do not collect special-category data.

• Device & connection dataYour IP address, browser type and version, operating system, screen size, and approximate location derived from your IP.
• On-screen interactionsPages and records you view, the order you move through them, clicks, taps, scrolling, and mouse movement.
• Session recordingsA reconstructed playback of your visit — your screen activity as you navigate the atlas. See section 03 below.
• Cookies & local identifiersA randomly-generated identifier stored on your device so we can group events from the same visit. We do not use this to identify you by name.

We want to be completely clear about this, because it is the most significant thing we do with your data.

Session recording is provided by PostHog (section 05). Recordings are pseudonymised: they are tied to a random session identifier, not to your name or email.

We collect this data to understand how the atlas is used, to diagnose errors, to improve navigation and performance, and to protect the service from abuse.

• Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)For session recording and non-essential analytics, where consent is the appropriate basis. You can withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
• Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR)For essential, aggregated analytics and security — limited to what is necessary to keep the atlas working and safe. You may object (section 08).

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract and on our instructions.

• PostHogOur product-analytics and session-recording provider, acting as a data processor. We have signed PostHog’s Data Processing Agreement (DPA), which governs how they may handle your data.

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to do so, or to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

We use PostHog Cloud EU, hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. Your analytics data and session recordings are stored on servers within the European Union, so there is no transfer of this data outside the EU/EEA in normal operation.

If at any point data is transferred to a country outside the EU/EEA — for example to a sub-processor in the United States — that transfer is protected by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) together with supplementary technical measures. We will update this notice before relying on any such transfer.

We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the purposes above.

• Session recordingsRetained for 30 days, after which they are deleted automatically by PostHog.
• Aggregated & event analyticsRetained for 12 months in identifiable form, then anonymised or deleted.

Where we are required to keep certain records for legal or accounting reasons, we retain them for the period the law requires and no longer.

Under the GDPR you have the following rights over your personal data. To exercise any of them, email us at simontornberg@hotmail.com; we will respond within one month.

If you believe we have handled your data improperly, we would like the chance to put it right — please contact us first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Denmark this is Datatilsynet (the Danish Data Protection Agency), datatilsynet.dk.

Browsing the atlas is open to all and does not require you to provide personal data by name. The technical data in section 02 is collected automatically as a normal part of loading a website. Session recording and non-essential analytics are optional — if you decline or withdraw consent, you can still use the atlas; we simply will not record your session.

We may group visitors into anonymous cohorts (for example, “people who used search”) to understand usage patterns. We do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we do not build individual profiles to make decisions about you.

We may update this notice as the atlas evolves or the law changes. When we make material changes we will update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, tell you directly.
